Robyn L. Roth


Robyn L. Roth has more than 25 years of experience in a broad range of legal matters, including residential and commercial real estate, corporate transactional matters, and entertainment business and finance transactions.  She represents individuals, families, and privately and publicly-owned companies, often acting as outside general counsel.  Excellence, responsiveness, and discretion are the hallmarks of Ms. Roth’s practice. 

In addition to maintaining a full-service commercial real estate practice, Ms. Roth is particularly well known for her unique expertise in residential real estate matters.  Often representing high profile individuals in the entertainment industry and other fields, she regularly closes eight-figure residential purchases and sales, as well as multi-million dollar residential construction projects.   Her extensive expertise includes purchase and sale transactions, financing, title insurance, landlord-tenant and leasing matters, surveys, boundary disputes, easements, and construction. 

Her business practice includes structuring and advising corporations, limited liability companies, and partnerships; developing equity and debt structures; structuring rights deals; and preparing and negotiating endorsement agreements, as well as executive and staff employment agreements, confidentiality agreements, non-disclosure agreements, and termination agreements.
Ms. Roth’s entertainment finance and transactional practice includes production, distribution, and finance, as well as bank and non-traditional financing for domestic and international productions.  She also advises on related Guild issues, as well as structuring backend, deferral, and other contingent compensation arrangements, along with talent and writer agreements and acquisition of intellectual property and licensing.

Ms. Roth received her law degree from Harvard Law School, but has deep roots in the Southern California region, having grown up in Los Angeles’s Laurel Canyon neighborhood and having earned her B.A. in communication studies at UCLA, where she graduated summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa. 
Ms. Roth is a frequent speaker on real estate law, corporate entertainment topics, and independent film production and finance, including presentations at the Beverly Hills Bar Association, UCLA’s Anderson School of Business, University of Southern California’s Annual Institute on Entertainment Law and Business, and the Worklaw Annual National Conference and Seminar. 

As a member of the Los Angeles County Bar Association, she has served as an officer of its Intellectual Property and Entertainment Law Section and the co-chair of its Annual Symposium, “Feature Films: From Acquisition to Distribution.”  She is a member of the Beverly Hills Bar Association, Entertainment Law and Real Estate Law Sections.

Ms. Roth is the co-author of REMODEL THIS! A Women’s Guide to Planning and Surviving the Madness of a Home Renovation (Penguin/Perigee 2007).  She has been quoted and interviewed extensively on real estate and remodeling in print, on the radio, and online, including in the New York Times, in, and on Wisconsin Public Radio.

Ms. Roth is an alumna of the Anti-Defamation League’s prestigious Salvin Leadership Program, and she remains active in the ADL, serving on its Legal Affairs and Entertainment Committees.  She is a past Chair of the Board of Directors of the Friends of Levitt Pavilion - MacArthur Park.
